Love is certainly in the air at Cookerly Public Relations. It’s of course Valentine’s Day, and…yours truly takes the plunge on Saturday. I’m leaving town tomorrow to get married, and love is on the brain. I’m also a reader of The Love List and always find inspiration from blogger Jess’ lists of loves. So I thought I’d leave the faithful readers of PeRceptiopns with a few items on my PR Love List before I say adieu to my single status.
My Spiral-Bound 2003 AP Stylebook
Yes, it’s rather old and outdated. And I can see that my copy is looking pretty dingy, but it’s been with me since college, and I love the spiral bound version.
Statistics
Sure it seems boring to sit around crunching numbers, but good, solid statistics are one of the true loves of my PR life. They have a way of putting everything into perspective. And they’re a great way to get a reporter to fall in love with your story too.
Coffee
Okay, maybe a love for coffee is not exclusive to PR. But, it certainly helps to get me in the pitching mood.
My Office Phone
I know, there’s no way any of us could live without email. It honestly doesn’t compute with me that people did jobs and were at all productive without email and the Internet. But, when you’ve been typing away all day long, don’t you love the feeling of picking up the phone? It’s a great way to get an instant answer from a reporter, and there’s that added bonus of human interaction.
I’m not sure everyone is as lucky as I am to really like the people with whom he works. It’s great to brainstorm with the team, bounce creative ideas off one another, learn a lot or just share a weekend story with my fellow cube-dwellers.
So, I leave you as a Waters and shall return as a Lippman. In the meantime, let us know what is on your professional Love List.
