Okay, by the headline, you’re probably thinking this is going to be some ridiculous, self-serving braggadocio piece where I tell you how wonderful I am. Well, you’re right … sort of. I AM here to brag about Chip Stewart but it is not self-aggrandizement and I’m not speaking of myself in the third-person. After all, anyone who knows Chip Stewart knows he would never do that!
So I start with a question. Have you ever decided to search your own name on Google to see what pops up? C’mon. I bet you have. I did and was quite surprised to find other Chip Stewarts out there. Hundreds of ‘em! I’ve always thought my name was somewhat uncommon, but I guess when you scan the entire Internet, you find it is anything but…
I was pleased to find that there is a professional golfer in Texas by the name of Chip Stewart. I wish I had his athletic skills and did what he does for a living. I wonder if he’s ever looked me up and said “Instead of playing golf for my livelihood, if I could only be a PR guy like that other Chip Stewart in Atlanta, my life would be complete.” Yeah, maybe.
Then I find there is a media law professor in TCU’s journalism school by the name of Chip Stewart. Must be something about Texas. The guy even blogs on social media topics and tweets under @MediaLawProf (I’m now following him.) “Dr. Chip Stewart” …. Has a nice ring to it!
I never knew that there was a Chip Stewart who is a recording artist until I searched my own name. Check out Chip Stewart’s music and if you’ve ever heard my colleague here at Cookerly Public Relations Mike Mullet play and sing, I think you might find he has a somewhat similar sound. Perhaps Mike and Chip could get together and resurrect Mike’s world renowned band Red Dirt.
There are actually many Chip Stewarts out there, but I was sad to find that there was a gentleman by that name who passed away a couple of years ago. He apparently was a good guy who had a positive impact on many people. One of his friends or family members did a video tribute to his memory. I didn’t know him but was touched by the video and feel badly for those who lost a close friend and loved one.
It’s an amazing digital landscape that is so interwoven with our daily lives and there could be many more people with your name who have interesting stories. How about it … have you searched your own name and found something interesting? If so, please comment!
In the meantime, this disclaimer: I Chip Stewart, the author of this piece, am a lousy golfer, have only a bachelor’s degree so cannot rightfully be called doctor, can’t play the guitar and can’t sing. Any resemblance in thought, deed or actions to other Chip Stewarts is purely coincidental.
Very funny! Enjoyed reading. Thanks.
